Vetiver – Vetiveria zizanioides
Vetiver finds its roots in India and is found in swampy, tropical areas. Vetiver grass can grow up to two feet and with roots that can get three feet deep. The tangled grass tufts can be fashioned into carpets and are also used to make knick-knacks.
The word Vetiver finds its etymological origin in the mid-19th-century French word vétiver, which comes from the Tamilic (the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, modern-day Sri Lanka) word veá¹á¹ivÄ“r which means, ‘hatcheted up’, which comes from the root word vÄ“r which means ‘root.’ This is a description of how the roots are harvested.
