Clove Bud - Syzygium aromaticum
Clove is the Latin word, Clavus, meaning “nail” because of the shaft of the bud resembling a nail. Clove Bud essential oil finds its origin in the Maluku Islands. The slender evergreen trees reach heights up to 36 feet. The gray barked tree has shiny dark green elliptical-shaped fragrant leaves. This tropical spice is excellent digestive oil and has been especially helpful with toothaches. Clove Bud aids in emotional support by helping to provide emotional support and also makes a great energy booster. It is also used in many dental products to help with pain, neutralize bad breath, and kill bacteria in the mouth.

- It is a hot oil and may cause skin and mucous irritation or sensitization.
- Clove Bud can act as a blood thinner so precautions must be taken if taking prescription blood thinners.
Therapeutic Properties
The high sesquiterpene content contributes to the anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects of Clove Bud. The essential oil derived from clove buds is not as irritating to the skin as the oil taken from the leaf or stem. Eugenol, which causes skin and mucous membrane irritation, is buffered by the sesquiterpenes within Clove Bud.
Clove is a powerful antioxidant. As a dried spice, it measures 300,000 on the ORAC scale, and as an essential oil, it estimates over 1 million.
